Challenge

Waternative was doing something different than all the same-same sailing and yachting charters in the Cyclades – they offered more private, customizable experiences that let their guests live and do like the locals did. The concept was novel but the brand experience was not. We were tasked to create a look and feel that spoke to the once-in-a-life trips that Waternative delivered.

Since the rebrand, we participated in two major trade shows, which gave us a big boost in market awareness. We wouldn’t have been able to get that direct to consumer business without such great branding.

Outcome

Waternative’s primary market was well-educated, appreciated nice things, and loved to have a great (Instagram) story to tell. We built a brand that spoke to this. The logo took ancient Greece symbology and transformed them into a modern, graphic identity. We used keyboard symbols to modernize the messaging and visually showcase the modularity of the trips. Since the launch of the rebrand in 2018, the business has grown 3x and the company is now looking to own its sailing and yachting fleet and extend the brand into new experiences.

Role

Initially, I worked directly with Waternative’s founding team, running positioning and brand exercises. Once all stakeholders were bought in on the revised value proposition we developed a new identity and brand-feel. Then, I focused on improving their consumer-facing collateral and translating the new look and tone into the design.
